Important Post-COVID Church Trends

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how countless industries work, whether through remote options or in-person situations. This has become especially true for the Christian Church, as they have also felt the impact of the pandemic. To better understand its impact on the church, consider the following trends.

More Focus On Neighborhood Churches
The movement toward establishing neighborhood churches is already underway. We believe that it will continue to grow in 2022. A neighborhood church is a congregation that is focused on serving a specific geographical area.

More Focus On Community Involvement
Although the establishment of neighborhood churches is a key factor in the movement toward community involvement, it is not the only factor contributing to this growing trend. Church Answers has seen a positive trend in this direction.

Churches Will Complete Mergers
The increasing number of congregations willing to adopt struggling congregations clearly indicates that the multisite movement is gaining momentum. This movement will help keep the doors of these churches open. It also shows that the health of a church can be maintained by adopting a struggling one.

Less Giving For Churches
In 2020, and 2021, churches experienced an increase in their giving. However, it is important to note that the government’s actions during the financial crisis resulted in a huge amount of liquidity being injected into the market. This resulted in members’ accounts being filled with billions of dollars.

We do not anticipate that the government will financially support churches at the level it did during the financial crisis. One pastor noted that he would not be increasing his budget in 2022.

Adjusted Attendance
According to Church Answers, attendance is expected to not fully recover in 2022. As more people become aware of the COVID variants, they will continue to avoid attending weekly worship services that take place in person. For those who struggle with ongoing medical conditions, the risk of attending in-person services will be deemed too high, resulting in more people joining services remotely. In order to ensure you can accommodate these individuals, a remote setup should be available for attending services virtually.
